Privacy

We ask before we hold anything. And we tell you what we hold.

A charity built on a child's right to be asked cannot be careless with data. This is the plain-English version of how we handle yours. If anything here is unclear, email privacy@fada.org.uk and a person will answer.

01

Who we are

The Family and Disability Alliance (FADA) is currently a project of Making It Happen Now CIC. For data-protection purposes, Making It Happen Now CIC is the data controller for FADA’s activities while we transition to an independent charity. Our data-protection contact is privacy@fada.org.uk.

02

What we collect, and only when you give it

We hold personal data in four situations, each one started by you:

  • When you join or register interest — your name, email, and the broad way you relate to our work.
  • When you ask for casework help — what you tell us about your situation, which can include your child’s first name, age, and areas of need. This is sensitive data, so we only store it once you’ve explicitly agreed on the form, and we use it only to help you.
  • When you sign the campaign — your email, and optionally your name and region, so we can count you honestly.
  • When you join the card waitlist — your email, and optionally your child’s age range.

We don’t buy data about you, and we don’t collect more than the task in front of us needs.

03

Why we're allowed to hold it

For most of it, the lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For casework, we also rely on your explicit consent to hold sensitive information, because that is what lets us act on your behalf. We never rely on a basis we can’t point to.

04

Who can see it

Access is limited to the FADA staff and trained caseworkers who need it to do the specific job you asked for. It isn’t browsable by anyone else, and every look at a sensitive record is logged. We never sell your data, and we never share a family’s story without that family’s word first.

05

How long we keep it

Only as long as the purpose needs. Interest sign-ups that never become membership are cleared after two years. Casework records are kept while your case is live and for a limited period after, so we can help if it reopens. You can ask us to delete anything sooner.

06

Your rights — and we mean them

You can ask us for a copy of everything we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or ask us to hand it to you in a portable form. We answer within one calendar month. We help families win these exact requests from other bodies — we’d be a poor alliance if we made you fight us for the same thing.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@fada.org.uk. If you think we’ve got it wrong, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) — but please tell us first, so we can put it right.

07

Children's data

Some of what we hold is about children. We treat it with the most care of anything in our system: explicit consent to store it, access limited to the people helping, and the same right to have it removed. Where a child is old enough to have a view about their own information, that view matters — that is, after all, the whole point of us.

Cookies and analytics

We keep this light. The site uses only what it needs to work and to understand, in aggregate, which pages help people. We don’t run advertising trackers.

This notice will grow more formal as FADA becomes an independent charity and registers its own data-protection details. When it does, we’ll say what changed and why — here, in the open.
